The Mansfield 1861 Census gives my ancestor's birth place as Stockport Cheshire.
Would be pleased to hear from anyone with birth and parent details. So far my research has failed to gain any info.

Also ...why would George leave Stockport to become a Fishmonger in Mansfield Notts ?

The clue is on the 1861 Census form.

The niece "Phoebe" living with him is the daughter of my great great grandfather Richard Staniland born Chesterfield (no record of his birth or christening traced) , died 28 November 1842 at Mansfield. We believe that he married Ann Justice (or Justis) at Babworth on 30th December 1786. I have a copy of the Marriage Bond and register entry.

His daughter Harriett appears on the 1841 Census for Church Street Mansfield as his housekeeper, and on the 1856 Censuswith my ggrandfather John as a lodger.
